What is included in the monthly package / accommodation fee?

Accommodation in a single/shared suite equipped with the following:

  • 24 hour nursing care
  • En-suite bathroom with disability functionality
  • Interior designed finishes and curtaining
  • Kitchenette with built-in fridge and wash basin
  • Air conditioning unit in every room
  • Private patio in selected rooms
  • Flat screen TV
  • Access to lounge, dining room and coffee shop facilities for guests
  • Healthcare in terms of Client’s medical evaluation
  • Overall health, diet and vitals will be managed as required
  • Wheelchair friendly shuttle will transport you within the Hermanus municipal area
  • Landline telephone provided (cost of calls residents responsibility)
  • Mail delivery service
  • Social and interactive activities presented by trained occupational therapist and staff
What is excluded in my monthly fee?

The monthly fee includes the comprehensive range of services and excludes:

  • Doctor’s consultations
  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Ward stock (incontinent products (remove nappies please), dressings, etc).
  • Medication
  • Hairdresser
  • Any additional therapy that might be required such as physiotherapy
  • “One on one” care
  • Telephone account
  • Blister packaging (compulsory)
  • Personal toiletries
  • Personal insurance
  • Private hospital fees
  • Individual needs as chosen by the resident as per the ‘pay as you go package’.
How much is the deposit I need to pay?

A deposit equal to 1 (one) month’s fee is payable prior to admission;

How long is the accommodation agreement?

The accommodation agreement will continue for an indefinite period and is terminated upon month end of:

  • Passing of a patient resident/client
  • Resident is transferred to an alternative facility
What is my notice period?

The Resident is entitled to terminate the accommodation agreement at any time on written notice of not less than 2 (two) calendar months’ notice;

What are the Admission criteria?

Residents and their Guardian are required to complete a Pre-admission Application, Financial Evaluation and Geriatric Report from a medical practitioner.  The final decision lies with the Nursing Service Manager, who will conduct an interview with your loved one to ensure we are able to care for them in the best way possible.

Can you provide us with a furnished room?

A furnisher pack and brochure is available on request room can be provided at a cost agreed between the parties.  We also value and realise the importance of familiar furniture for people living with dementia, so always encourage our patients to bring along their own personal items to make their living space feel like home.

Do I have to pay for my own telephone?

The cost of the installation, handset and monthly rental is included in the monthly accommodation fee. The Resident only pays for the cost of calls which is billed at Telkom’s standard rates;

How far can I travel within Hermanus?

If you would like to go to Hermanus for an outing, shopping or to the beach, our wheelchair friendly shuttle service will provide free transport to residents within the municipal boundary of the Overstand Municipality, within agreed outing times.

What is the age group of people being admitted?

Hermanus Elderly Care Place is equipped and authorised to care for adults and no age restriction applies.

Do you admit patients that could be suffering from Dementia or Alzheimer's?

Yes, we do. The criteria for admission is determined in an interview with the Nursing Service Manager and MediPartner staff.

What are the visiting hours?

No visiting hours apply.  You are welcome to visit your loved one at any time of the day.

Do you have activity programmes?

Yes, we offer a host of activity programmes presented by an Occupational Therapist and our staff.  Activities include baking, crafts, music, games evenings. exercise and pottery to name just a few.  We ensure that our activities are varied and updated to keep our residents entertained and active.

Do I need to take my loved one to specialist and doctors, or will the facility assist?

Hermanus Assisted Living Suites is onsite with Hermanus Day Hospital, Hermanus Oncology Centre and Spescare, giving you peace of mind knowing your mental, health and medical needs will be taken care of should you need assistance.

What types of neuro-degenerative diseases do you accommodate?

Neurodegeneration diseases treated at Hermanus Elderly Care Place includes Dementia, Alzheimers, Parkinsons and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc.  Dementia is a broad category of brain diseases that cause long term and often gradual decrease in the ability to think and remember and affects a person’s daily functioning.

The criteria for admission for neuro-degenerative diseases are determined in an interview with the Nursing Service Manager and MediPartner staff.

Will my loved-ones’ animal be welcome at the facility?

Animals are welcome and we are a pet friendly facility. However, animals and pets are also assessed by the staff to ensure comfort and safety of all the residents are considered first and foremost.
